A current PhD student at the University of Cincinnati, Kira earned her MFA in Fiction at Virginia Tech, where she won the Outstanding GTA award for her teaching. She serves as Assistant Fiction Editor for X-R-A-Y and has previously held editorial and publicity roles with Longreads, The Atavist, The Believer, Carve Magazine, the minnesota review, and The New River. She has lived and studied in many cities, including Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Seattle, London, Tokyo, Blacksburg, Los Angeles, and (currently) Cincinnati.
Kira writes about internet culture and digital subjectivities. Her work has received support from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts and the Ragdale Foundation, and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, Best Small Fictions, and the Shirley Jackson Awards. She was a finalist in contests held by the Kenyon Review, American Short Fiction, Shenandoah, and CRAFT, and her writing appears or is forthcoming in Kenyon Review Online, Indiana Review, Passages North, Longreads, DIAGRAM, Barrelhouse, The Offing, and elsewhere. She is working on a novel and a story collection, and is represented by Rebecca Gradinger at United Talent Agency.
